DECONTAMINATION
LBDS
LIGHT BIOLOGIGAL DECONTAMINATION SYSTEM
LBDS is a 0.6m
3
chamber designed to
decontaminate
sensitive
equipment
integrated in a CBRN alert beacon and
contaminated by biological agents.
This lightweight standalone module can be
mounted in minutes onto the rear platform of
a light vehicle (Sport Utility Truck, ATV…) or
deployed on the ground.
MISSION
Decontamination is defined as the removal of contamination by cleaning product like water
and soap or chemical solution. Such liquid solutions have limitation and can’t be applied on
electronics devices contaminated by biological or chemical warfare agents.
Vaporous Hydrogen Peroxide (VHP) is an effective bio-decontaminant that is used to sterilize
BSL3 laboratories and surgery rooms since y2k. VHP system vaporises hydrogen peroxide in
a chamber to have a concentration > 150ppm (part per million). Such concentration can kill
biological agent, including spores that are heat resistant, without producing waste solution.
PRESENTATION
Contaminated devices are installed inside the enclosure and then locked on two trays allowing
the use of the system when the vehicle is running.
The LBDS process has 3 phases:
•
conditioning: the hydrogen peroxide is vaporized into the chamber for 4 minutes.
•
decontamination: the vaporization phase is stopped ; contaminated equipment in contact with
hydrogen peroxide spray for 30 minutes.
•
ventilation: after the decontamination step, filtered outdoor air is blown into the chamber to
remove the decontaminant until the hydrogen peroxide reaches a minimum concentration of
a few ppm.
